Seneca Wallace Seneca Wallace and the Cyclones are primed and ready to host Nebraska on Sept. 28. AP

Sports Illustrated senior writer Ivan Maisel will track the Heisman race for CNNSI.com all season long.

Now we're talking. We might not have a Heisman race just yet, but three weeks into the season we finally have some potential winners bursting out of the gates. A certain Florida quarterback is coming out of the gate, and going back to the paddock. Rex Grossman can revive his candidacy at Tennessee on Saturday but that's a lot to ask.

1. Ken Dorsey, Miami, Sr., QB

Last Week: 20-for-35, 314 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT
Season: 44-of-80, 626 yards, 9 TDs, 4 INTs

Did what he had to do against Temple. Boston College should provide more of a challenge.

2. Seneca Wallace, Iowa State, Sr., QB

Last Week: 23-of-37, 361 yards, TD, INT
Season: 73-of-113, 1138 yards, 6 TDs, 4 INTs

No matter the opponent, Wallace puts up points and numbers. Next big hurdle: Nebraska on Sept. 28.

3. Maurice Clarett, Ohio State, Fr., TB

Last Week: 31 carries, 230 yards, 2 TDs
Season: 64 carries, 469 yards (156.3 ypg average), 6 TDs

If a team like the Buckeyes hops on your back and you carry them to a big victory, you should be considered for the Heisman, freshman or no.

4. Byron Leftwich, Marshall, Sr., QB

Last Week: 31-of-49, 406 yards, 3 TDs, INT
Season: 58-of-96, 875 yards, 7 TDs, INT

The Herd may have been outclassed at Virginia Tech, but ask the NFL scouts who came out of that game as the winner.

5a. Kyle Boller, Cal, Sr., QB

Last Week: 19-of-33, 232 yards, 2 TDs, INT
Season: 56-of-91, 625 yards, 7 TDs, INT

Threw for two TDs, ran for one and caught a fourth. Leader of most surprising team in the nation. What's not to like?

5b. Phillip Rivers, N.C. State, Jr., QB

Last Week: 17-of-27, 223 yards, TD, 0 INT
Season: 52-of-78, 953 yards, 9 TDs, 2 INTs

The Wolfpack's schedule is slowly getting better. Winning at Texas Tech won't be easy. Ask Texas and Texas A&M.
