Gators rise to No. 7 after beating Vols

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Florida moved up three spots to No. 7 and Notre Dame cracked the top-10 in the latest Associated Press college football poll released Sunday.

Florida (3-1), which lost to top-ranked Miami two weeks ago, posted a 30-13 win at Tennessee (2-1) on Saturday. Rex Grossman passed for 324 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Gators. The loss dropped Tennessee seven places to No. 11.

Notre Dame (4-0) continued its steady climb, moving up two more spots to No. 10 after a 21-17 win at Michigan State on Saturday.

Penn State (3-0) also continued its rise, ascending three more places to No. 12. The Nittany Lions cracked the poll at No. 15 last week following a 40-7 rout of Nebraska.

Defending national champion Miami (4-0) added a first-place vote for 69 and 1,845 points overall in a nationwide panel of 74 broadcasters and writers. The Hurricanes defeated Boston College, 38-6 for their 26th straight win.

Idle Oklahoma (3-0) remains second with three first-place votes and 1,717 points and Texas (3-0) is third with two first-place votes and 1,699 points.

Florida State (4-0) moved into fourth and Virginia Tech (4-0) rose two places to fifth on the heels of Tennessee's loss. Florida State beat Duke, 48-17 and Virginia Tech defeated Texas A&M, 13-3. The Aggies slipped five places to No. 24.

Ohio State (4-0) stayed at sixth as did Georgia (3-0) and Oregon (4-0) at eighth and ninth, respectively.

Washington (2-1) is No. 13 followed by Michigan (3-1) and Kansas State (4-0), which made the biggest jump from 25 to 15 after a 27-20 victory over Southern California.

Washington State (3-1) and North Carolina State (5-0) remain 16th and 17th, respectively, while Southern Cal (2-1) fell seven spots to No. 18. Iowa State (4-1) and Nebraska (3-1) round out the top-20.

Wisconsin (5-0), Louisiana State (2-1), Oregon State, Texas A&M and Colorado State complete the poll.
