Ex-'Nole QB McPherson to be arraigned on Jan. 23

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Former Florida State quarterback Adrian McPherson is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 23 in Leon County.

Assistant state attorney Warren Goodwin said McPherson faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly taking a blank check from a local business and a felony charge of grand theft for the $3,500 received from it.

McPherson was kicked off the team in November after school officials were informed of the police investigation. The university, local and state police also began an investigation into rumors of gambling spawned by the check affair.

"The purpose of arraignment is to officially get the case in the right court and confirm who represents who ... and get the case moving toward either a trial or a plea," Goodwin said.
