NCAA comments

Responding to questions about possible NCAA violations at Florida State, a spokesperson for the organization said, “The NCAA has a policy not to comment on any investigations of member institutions, unless a public statement has been released from the Association on a specific case.” However, the spokesperson did address three specific issues that could be relevant to any possible investigation of Florida State.
According to the spokesperson:
“Student managers are covered in by-law 10.1 (Unethical Conduct) and the significance of each case is determined by individual circumstances, such as the institution’s knowledge of the manager’s actions.”
“To a great degree, the responsibility of an institution for [an accused] bookie’s actions would depend upon its knowledge of the bookie and his or her activities. A graduate of an institution is not automatically a ‘representative of an institution’s athletics interest,’ or booster. However, if an institution’s administration or coaches know of a bookie’s activities, the bookie could be considered a booster of the institution.”
“Institutions are expected to self-report violations when it has been determined that they have occurred. Decisions by the institution involving an investigation would depend upon the individual circumstances of the case.”
