ATLANTA (AP) -- Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer is in an Atlanta hospital Wednesday, two days after seeking medical attention for chest pains.

Beamer was vacationing with his family at his lakefront home near Atlanta when he started having chest pains Monday night, according to Tech director of football operations John Ballein. The coach saw a doctor in the area and planned to fly home to be examined by his personal physician but was advised to go to the hospital instead.

A statement from the hospital, posted on Beamer's Web site, says he was admitted "for observation and further studies." It also says Beamer underwent a coronary exam that showed no major blockages and it's anticipated he will be discharged in the next few days.
