Huskers don the pads Nebraska cranks up training camp intensityPosted: Friday August 08, 2003 11:04 PMLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- The Nebraska football team worked out in half pads for the first time this season, going a little over two hours Friday at Memorial Stadium. The pads slowed the players a bit, but coach Frank Solich said the team remains aggressive. What is not slowing the team, however, are new plays and new terminology that came with the six new assistant coaches this season. "I like what these coaches are all about in terms of being great teachers," Solich said. "They have brought everyone along very quickly." Except for bumps and bruises, the team remains healthy. "We haven't had a ridiculous number of injuries and with the exception of a few nicks and strains, we seem to be holding up well," Solich said. Although defensive tackle Jason Lohr did not return to practice Friday, Solich said he hopes to return soon. "Jason has waited for so long that there is no need to rush it now. Jason has a big heart and is a good judge of when he should return," he said. Lohr missed all of the 2002 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury during fall camp. He also missed all but three games in the 2001 season because of a knee injury. Earlier this week, he didn't practice because of back spasms. The team will move to the grass fields on Saturday before donning full pads for Sunday's practice.
