MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Suspended defensive end Darius Jones won't miss the University of Wisconsin's season opener at West Virginia but the Badgers' game Sept. 6 against Akron at Camp Randall Stadium.

"I considered a number of different options in regard to a suspension," coach Barry Alvarez said in a statement Thursday. "He will miss our home opener, which is an important game to our players, especially those from Wisconsin."

Jones is a junior defensive end from Beloit.

Alvarez recently handed Jones a one-game suspension for violating team rules over the summer.

Alvarez has refused to reveal the nature of that violation, but a spokesman for the Village of Shorewood Hills Police Department said Jones was picked up for allegedly driving drunk.

At media day last week, Jones, who was second on the team last year with five sacks and 10 tackles for a loss, said he had let down his teammates, the program and his family.

"I'm disappointed in myself," he said. "It's just immaturity. I believe I've learned my lesson."
