Rough summer

Suspended Gamecock Turman has apartment robbed

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A difficult offseason got a little worse for South Carolina runner Daccus Turman when his campus apartment was broken into and all his belongings and those of three teammates were stolen.

Turman was suspended for a month earlier this summer after he was charged with criminal domestic violence. Those charges were later dropped and his accuser arrested after she retracted her statements about the incident.

On Thursday, Turman said he went to his East Quad apartment and saw everything gone. "It was pretty rough," he says. "It's been a rough summer."

Turman had agreed to let teammates Matthew Thomas, Tremaine Tyler and Isaac Stackhouse store things at his place during fall camp.

Several TV sets, DVD players and a state championship ring Turman got at Washington County (Ga.) High School were taken.

At Thursday's practice, South Carolina coach Lou Holtz said he wasn't sure if Turman was slowed by the heat or burdened by the theft.

There was a bit of good news, though -- he had renter's insurance that should cover most of the loss. "My parents told me it would probably be the best move," he said.
