Florida St. Seminoles vs Oklahoma Sooners
Orange Bowl Wrap up - Defense Wins Championships

January 03, 2001
by: Sportvision

Defense Wins Championships. Oklahoma's defense absolutely shut down the best offense in the nation, and the Sooners came away with their first National Championship since 1985. Florida St.'s defense wasn't bad, either - the Sooners scored the only TD of the game with less than 8 minutes to go in the ball game. But it was Oklahoma that came out on top, 13-2. There will be no recounts. There will be no controversy. The Oklahoma Sooners are the only undefeated team in the country. They are National Champions.

Coaching Points:

  • DB Ontei Jones (11) came free on the blitz, forcing Chris Weinke (16) to scramble inside. Rocky Calmus (20) came from behind and knocked the ball out of Weinke's hands.
