AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas coach Mack Brown still has a place in his heart for North Carolina football. Just not this weekend. North Carolina continues a brutal early-season schedule when it visits the sixth-ranked Longhorns Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Currently in his fourth season in Austin, Brown has built the Longhorns into a national title contender, an opportunity he earned after working magic at Chapel Hill. Brown spent 10 seasons at North Carolina, posting a combined 20-3 record over his last two seasons and earning bowl berths his last six years at the school. "Chapel Hill was an important part of my life," Brown said. "I'm a North Carolina football fan every game except when we play them." Brown insists Saturday's game holds no additional sentiment, but looks forward to the return to Chapel Hill next season. "It it had been one year later. it would have been more emotional," Brown said. "Next year, going back into Kenan Stadium will be more emotional." Texas (1-0) opened its season in impressive fashion with a 41-7 rout of overmatched New Mexico State last week. Chris Simms threw a pair of touchdown passes, completing 17-of-23 passes for 182 yards. The Tar Heels (0-2) are still searching for their first victory under coach John Bunting after a 23-7 loss to Maryland on Saturday. North Carolina opened the season with a loss at defending national champion Oklahoma and will host Florida State later this month. Texas leads the all-time series, 4-3. The last meeting was a 35-31 triumph for the Tar Heels in the 1994 Sun Bowl. This is the first regular season meeting between the teams since 1952. Before the game, Texas will honor defensive tackle Cole Pittman, who was killed in a car crash in February.
