COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) -- While talk of a national title has quieted, Texas seems to have used its disappointing loss to Oklahoma as a motivational tool. The seventh-ranked Longhorns hope to keep their offense in high gear Saturday when they head on the road to face Missouri in a Big 12 Conference contest. Since being held to a field goal against the Sooners, the Longhorns (6-1, 3-1 Big 12 South) have scored 86 points in their last two contests. They were especially impressive in last week's 41-7 victory over Colorado. Chris Simms, whose job may have in jeopardy following a dismal performance against Oklahoma, has bounced back with eight touchdown passes in his last two starts. He tied a school record with five TDs in a 45-17 victory over Oklahoma State and added three last week. The win kept Texas, which still has an outside shot at a BCS bid, tied for second in the division with Texas A&M. The Longhorns faces Baylor and Kansas in their next two games before the traditional finale against the Aggies. Simms has moved into seventh on Texas' all-time passing list and needs less than 300 yards to pass Bobby Layne, who threw for 3,145 yards from 1944-47. Missouri (3-3, 2-2 North) posted a 38-34 victory at Kansas last week and has alternated losses and wins all season. Unless the Tigers pull a stunning upset, that trend with continue this weekend. Kirk Farmer completed 19-of-32 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns against the Jayhawks, but he also had a pair of interceptions returned for scores. Zack Abron rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries for Missouri. Texas leads the all-time series, 12-5, and has won nine of the last 10 against Missouri, including a 46-12 victory last season in Austin. Major Applewhite, who lost his job to Simms later in the year when he was injured, tossed three touchdowns to become Texas' all-time leader. Texas has won five straight on the road, including wins over Houston and Oklahoma State this year. However, the Longhorns suffered a 37-29 loss in their last visit in Columbia in 1997, despite Ricky Williams' 255 rushing yards. The loss snapped Texas' 22-game winning streak when running for more than 200 yards.
