CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Miami may finally have destiny in its hands.

The top-ranked Hurricanes, who visit Boston College on Saturday in a Big East Conference contest, have climbed to No. 2 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and hope to play in the national championship game if they can run the table.

The task was made a bit easier when Eagles running back William Green, the nation's leading rusher, was suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Miami (7-0, 4-0 Big East) trails Nebraska by four points in the BCS rankings, but jumped over Oklahoma, which fell 1.22 points behind the Hurricanes.

Miami may have a chance to solidify its hold on the No. 2 spot as its final four opponents have a combined record of 27-7. The Hurricanes have games remaining against Syracuse, No. 8 Washington and Virginia Tech.

Miami is looking to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 18 games before next weekend's showdown against Syracuse that could determine the Big East championship. The Orangemen and Hurricanes are tied for first place in the conference.

In the preseason, it was thought that Virginia Tech would be the biggest threat to Miami's Big East supremacy, but the fading Hokies have dropped two in a row.

Ken Dorsey became Miami's all-time leader in passing touchdowns last week as the Hurricanes cruised to a 38-0 victory over Temple. Dorsey threw his 49th and 50th career TDs, breaking the school mark of 48 he shared with Vinny Testaverde and Steve Walsh.

Just a junior, Dorsey improved to 21-1 as Miami's starter but unlike his predecessors, he has not won a national championship.

Safety Edward Reed also moved into the Miami record book with his 19th career interception, tying Bennie Blades' school mark.

Clinton Portis also got into the act, running for 117 yards to become fifth back in school history to rush for more than 2,000 career yards.

Miami does have injury concerns of its own. Left guard Sherko Haji-Rasouli suffered a torn ACL in practice Tuesday and will miss at least this week's game.

Boston College (6-2, 3-1) has n off since defeating Notre Dame, 21-17, on October 27. The Eagles have won five of their last six and can make the Big East a three-team race if they can pull off a huge upset.

Boston College clinched a winning season with the win over Notre Dame and became bowl eligible.

Miami leads the all-time series, 19-3, and has won 11 straight meetings since Doug Flutie's miracle pass in the Orange Bowl in 1984 lifted the Eagles to a 47-45 victory.

The Hurricanes posted a 52-6 win last year in Miami in the most lopsided game in the series.
