KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee tries to continue its run of November success when it hosts Memphis. The Volunteers (6-1) are 61-3 in November since 1985 and could go through the month undefeated with Kentucky and Vanderbilt next on the schedule. The next serious test for the Volunteers will be December 1 against Florida. Tennessee has won its last 14 games against non-conference foes, but recent history indicates that the Tigers are no pushover. The last two games have been decided by a total of three points with four of the last five meetings decided by five points or less. The Volunteers escaped with a 19-17 win in Memphis last season and have won 17 of 18 all-time meetings. A loss to Georgia in early October likely damaged the Volunteers' national title hopes, but consecutive wins over Alabama, South Carolina and Notre Dame have put them back in the hunt for a BCS berth. Casey Clausen ran for one touchdown and passed for another in last week's 28-18 win over Notre Dame. The sophomore threw for 228 yards and went over the 3,000 mark in career passing yards. Travis Stephens was held to 63 yards on 24 carries last week after reaching the century mark in each of the lprevious three games. But he needs just 67 yards to become the 10th player in school history to rush for 1,000 in a season. With the important part of the season still to come, the Volunteers are building a balanced offense. Stephens is enjoying a strong season on the ground while freshman Kelley Washington is averaging 102.0 receiving yards per game. The Tigers (4-4), a member of Conference USA, have lost to East Carolina and Alabama-Birmingham in their last two games. Memphis is coached by Tommy West, who guided Clemson from 1993-1999. Dante Brown of the Tigers has rushed for 734 yards and nine touchdowns.
