LARAMIE, Wyoming (Ticker) -- Brigham Young can become the second college football team to reach double digits in wins when it visits Wyoming in a Mountain West Conference game on Saturday. The ninth-ranked Cougars (9-0, 5-0 MVC) are enjoying their best start since the 1984 team won the national title with a 13-0 record. That season, the Cowboys gave BYU its closest game of the season before losing, 41-38. Nebraska already has 10 wins and leads the Bowl Championship Series poll. BYU, by contrast, is a distant 13th and must finish in the top six to be assured of a berth in the BCS poll. A schedule ranked 109th in the nation is the prime reason for the low rating and a win over struggling Wyoming (2-6, 0-5) will do little to help the cause. The Cougars can clinch a share of the Mountain West title with a victory anc can claim the title outright with a win and a loss by Utah to San Diego State. While the Cougars are trying to work their way into the BCS race, Brandon Doman is making a late run for the Heisman Trophy. Doman passed for 284 yards and ran for 165 more as the Cougars rolled to a 56-34 victory over Colorado State last Thursday. Doman has 23 TDS and just three interceptions this season, but was upstaged last week by Luke Staley, who rushed for 196 yards and five touchdowns against the Rams. This year, Staley has set school records for career touchdowns (42) and single-season touchdowns (22). The main concern for BYU is a defense that ranks just 66th in the nation in scoring (25.7 ppg). Wyoming quarterback Casey Bramlet has 12 interceptions and just eight TD passes this season. He was sacked five times in a 47-26 loss to Nevada-Las Vegas two weeks ago. The Cowboys have lost five straight games and are allowing 32.8 yards per contest. BYU has won seven of the last eight meetings in the series, including a 19-7 win last season.
