BOULDER, Colorado (Ticker) -- Mike Moschetti threw for a school-record 465 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score as Colorado used a huge first quarter to stomp San Jose State, 63-35. Moschetti completed 25-of-32 passes as he eclipsed Koy Detmer's 457-yard passing day against Missouri on November 2, 1996. He started a 28-0 first-quarter explosion when he scored on a 12-yard run just over a minute into play. The quarterback gained 34 yards on the ground to give him a school-record 499 yards of total offense. The 78 percent completion ratio was a career high for Moschetti and improved his season totals to a staggering 55-of-78 for the Buffaloes (1-1), who rebounded from a demoralizing season-opening 41-14 loss to Colorado State last week. Daniel Graham caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Moschetti that gave Colorado a 14-0 lead just under six minutes into the opening quarter. Cortlen Johnson led the Buffaloes' ground attack with 104 yards and three touchdowns, the second of which made it 28-0 with 3:48 remaining in the first period. The 28 first-quarter points were the most in a single quarter by the Buffaloes since they tallied 35 in the opening period of a 66-14 thrashing of Northeast Louisiana in 1995. Colorado amassed 767 yards of total offense, eclipsing the school record of 758 which also came in the dismantling of NE Louisiana. Marcus Stiggers was Moschetti's favorite target, collecting career highs of five receptions and 174 yards. His 65-yard TD catch with 1:55 left in the third quarter gave Colorado a 49-22 bulge. Deonce Whitaker had 132 yards on 22 carries for San Jose State (0-2). His eight-yard scoring scamper and subsequent two-point conversion midway through the second quarter put the Spartans on the board and closed the gap to 28-8. Chris Kasteler was 20-of-35 for 283 yards and a pair of TD passes for San Jose State, which amassed 507 total yards.
