LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Dusty Bonner threw for 339 yards and four touchdowns and Kentucky exploded for 28 points in the fourth quarter to get past Division I-AA Connecticut, 45-14. Bonner also scored on a five-yard run to begin the outburst 3:01 into the final period. Running back Anthony White then caught a nine-yard scoring pass, ran for two yards for a TD, and Bonner and Quentin McCord hooked up on a six-yard touchdown pass with 2:21 to play. A 6-2 sophomore, Bonner completed 34-of-40 passes and was not picked off. He is attempting to replace Tim Couch, who was taken by the Cleveland Browns with the top pick in April's NFL draft. Bonner used nine different receivers to slowly pick apart Connecticut's defense. Garry Davis caught eight passes for 69 yards and James Whalen totaled 70 yards on seven receptions as the Wildcats (1-1) racked up 501 yards of offense. White helped easy the pressure on Bonner by carrying 19 times for 199 yards. Despite totaling just 183 yards of offense, the Huskies (0-2) were able to survive the first half in a 14-14 tie until Marc Samuel's 21-yard field goal 2:05 into the third quarter gave Kentucky the lead for good. Brian Hoffman completed 15-of-29 for 123 yards and threw a six-yard scoring pass in the first quarter to John Taxiltaridis. John Fitzsimmons had 10 receptions for 87 yards and Taber Small totaled 43 yards on 11 carries for Connecticut. Connecticut is 0-8 against Division I-A opponents. This was the first ever meeting between the schools on the gridiron. The basketball powers have also never played on the hardwood.
