STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Mississippi State sophomore safety Pig Prather's first career interception was a big one. Prather stepped in front of Travis Anglin's pass at his own 13-yard line with under a minute to play, preserving a 13-10 victory over Memphis. Scott Westerfield booted a pair of field goals for Mississippi State (2-0), including a 21-yarder with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter that gave the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead. But Neil Suber, who completed 8-of-16 passes for 63 yards, guided the Tigers (0-2) on a 70-yard, 10-play drive that culminated in Ryan White's 22-yard field goal, pulling Memphis within three points with 8:14 to play. Dicenzo Miller led Mississippi State's ground game with 65 yards on 14 carries, but fumbled away the ball to linebacker Caspor Stiles on his own 39 on the ensuing possession. Memphis was unable to move, settling for a 51-yard attempt by White that sailed wide left with 6:01 remaining. With 2:19 left, Anglin stepped in for Suber on the Tigers' final possession and drove the team out from its 20 to the 41 before Prather picked off his bomb with 48 seconds remaining. Justin Griffith scored MSU's lone touchdown on a three-yard scamper with 3:25 left in the first half, giving the Bulldogs a 10-0 cushion. Anglin, who rushed for 22 yards on six carries and was 2-for-6 for 17 yards passing, dove in from the 1 with 8:18 left in the third quarter to make it 10-7. Wayne Madkin was 13-of-25 passes for 156 yards for Mississippi State, which has won nine of its last 10 non-conference games.
