LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (Ticker) -- Clint Stoerner threw a pair of touchdown passes and Chrys Chukwuma ran for a score to lead 15th-ranked Arkansas to a 44-6 romp over Louisiana-Monroe at War Memorial Stadium. Stoerner completed 10-of-18 passes for 193 yards as Arkansas (2-0) opened the season with two straight wins for only the third time this decade. The Razorbacks won their first eight games last season before losses to Tennessee and Mississippi State kept them out of the Southeastern Conference championship game. Stoerner threw an eight-yard pass to Marvis Caston to open the scoring 4:12 into the contest and had a 37-yard TD toss to Cedric Cobbs to give Arkansas a 14-0 advantage 73 seconds into the second quarter. The Razorbacks took a 17-0 lead into the locker room after Tony Dodson kicked a 44-yard field goal with 68 seconds left. He had field goals of 42 and 19 yards in the second half. Chukwuma carried 17 times for 55 yards, including a five-yard score just over two minutes into the third quarter that made it 24-0. Michael Jenkins had a one-yard plunge to push the lead to 34-0 with 5:19 to play in the period. Michael Mitchell's 33-yard run early in the final quarter accounted for Louisiana-Monroe's scoring. Mitchell's five other carries totaled only 15 yards. Cornerback Orlando Green had a 27-yard fumble return for a TD, giving the Razorbacks a 41-6 bulge with 8:22 to play. Dodson added a 19-yard field goal with 3:46 to go. Arkansas has won all three meetings in the series.
