CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Thomas Jones ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns to power Virginia to a 35-7 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Wake Forest. Jones rushed 24 times for Virginia (2-1, 2-1 ACC), which has won 14 of its last 15 home openers. The Cavaliers have won 15 straight meetings with the Demon Deacons and lead the all-time series, 30-11. Jones had a 15-yard run to open the scoring with 2:59 left in the first quarter and his two-yard score gave Virginia a 14-0 lead 4:51 into the second period. Jones added a 12-yard score for the final margin with 6:04 left in the third quarter. Virginia's Dan Ellis completed 19-of-25 passes for 220 yards with one interception. Ellis threw a four-yard TD pass to Kevin Coffey, giving the Cavaliers a 28-0 cushion 69 seconds before halftime. Ben Sankey was 11-of-20 for 137 yards and an interception for Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1). Sankey threw a 25-yard pass to Jammie Deese with 31 seconds left in the first half. Virginia outgained Wake Forest, 467-217, and held a 26-16 advantage in first downs.
