TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- Shaun Alexander rushed for 165 yards and a score and Andrew Zow threw two touchdown passes as Alabama rebounded from last week's heartbreaking defeat with a 35-28 Southeastern Conference win over No. 14 Arkansas. Alexander, who fumbled earlier in the third quarter, made amends with a 12-yard touchdown run later in the period to break a 21-21 tie before wide receiver Freddie Milons found Jason McAddley for a 66-yard scoring strike on an option pass early in the fourth quarter. Beaten 29-28 at home last week by Louisiana Tech, the Crimson Tide (3-1, 2-0 SEC West) overcame six turnovers and 10 penalties to avenge last season's 42-6 drubbing at the hands of Arkansas and possibly save coach Mike Dubose's job. Clint Stoerner, whose status was questionable due to a separated shoulder, completed 24-of-52 passes for 316 yards and a TD for Arkansas (2-1, 0-1). The Razorbacks were trying for their second straight 3-0 start. Zow threw his third interception of the game early in the fourth quarter, which led to a 13-yard touchdown pass from Stoerner to Joe Dean Davenport that cut the deficit to 35-28 with 9:59 left. After forcing Alabama to punt late in the game, Arkansas got the ball with 1:26 to go and drove to the Tide 31, but Stoerner's "Hail Mary" pass went incomplete as time expired. Alabama took a 21-13 lead in the third quarter when Dustin McClintock scored from one yard out. Alexander committed his second fumble of the game just over three minutes later and safety Kenoy Kennedy returned it 41 yards for a touchdown. Michael Jenkins caught the two-point conversion pass to tie it, 21-21, with 6:11 left in the period. The Tide committed four turnovers in the first half but managed to hold a 14-13 lead. Milons caught a 35-yard scoring strike early in the first quarter and Antonio Carter hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass in the second period. Chrys Chukwuma had a two-yard touchdown run to open the scoring early in the first quarter and Tony Dodson booted field goals from 36 and 40 yards out to account for Arkansas' first-half points. The Tide racked up 494 total yards, including 193 on the ground, and held Arkansas to 64 yards rushing. Alexander's rushing total moved him into second on Alabama's all-time list with 2,793 yards. He trails Bobby Humphrey, who had 3,420 from 1985-88. Stoerner passed Barry Lunney to become the all-time passing leader for the Razorbacks with 5,892 yards. Lunney had 5,782. Arkansas wide receiver Anthony Lucas caught four passes for 93 yards and has 12 catches for 358 yards in three games.
