COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Terence Kitchens had a 62-yard kick among his three field goals and Jay Brooks and Michael Jameson returned interceptions for touchdowns to lead Texas A&M to a 23-6 victory over Southern Mississippi. Texas A&M (3-0) limited Southern Mississippi to just 129 yards and has won all seven meetings. Cornerback Jay Brooks had two sacks for the Aggies, who allowed just seven first downs. Kitchens' long kick came as time expired in the first half and gave the Aggies a 9-0 lead. It was three yards short of Tony Franklin's school record set against Baylor in 1976. Kitchens also converted kicks of 20 and 28 yards. Brooks picked off an errant pass and sprinted 41 yards up the right sideline for a TD to push the lead to 16-0 with 7:20 left in the third quarter. Jameson's 26-yard return completed the scoring 6:28 into the final period. Ja'Mar Toombs carried 20 times for 94 yards and Randy McCown completed 12-of-29 passes for 134 yards for Texas A&M, which plays its Big 12 Conference opener at Texas Tech next Saturday. Cable Davis, who replaced starter Jeff Kelly in the third quarter, threw a 54-yard pass to Todd Pinkston in the first minute of the fourth period for the only score for Southern Miss (2-2). Kelly completed 8-of-16 passes for just 47 yards and one interception. Davis was just 2-of-12 for 64 yards and three interceptions, including both of the TD returns. The Golden Eagles have lost their last four games against Big 12 Conference schools, with three of those coming against Texas A&M.
