CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Boston College scored on fumble, blocked punt and interception returns and remained unbeaten with a 33-22 victory over crosstown rival Northeastern. At 4-0, Boston College is off to its best start since going 7-0-1 in 1992. Northeastern (1-3) was not intimidated in its first game against a Division I-A opponent, grabbing a 14-13 lead with 4:12 left in the second quarter on quarterback Jason Quinlan's one-yard keeper. The Huskies halted Boston College on the ensuing drive when safety Brian Whitman intercepted Matt Hasselbeck in the end zone. On the next play from scrimmage, however, linebacker Frank Chamberlin scooped up Tim Gale's fumble and ran 12 yards to put the Eagles ahead for good. Receiver Ralph Parent brought back a blocked punt 15 yards for a score in the opening minute of the fourth quarter and RaMon Johnson raced 27 yards with an interception for a TD that stretched Boston College's lead to 33-14. The teams combined for 10 turnovers and Northeastern had the edge in total yardage, 401-307. Quinlan was 21-of-39 for 205 yards with one TD and two interceptions, while Gale led the Huskies' ground game with 80 yards on 10 carries. Hasselbeck completed only 11-of-26 passes for 113 yards with two interceptions. But the Eagles got 107 yards on 15 carries from Cedric Washington. Boston College has won all four meetings in the series, although the schools faced each other for the first time since 1938. This also was the Eagles' first game against a Division I-AA foe since rolling over Holy Cross, 56-26, in 1986.
