ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Joe Hamilton awoke from his nightmare late in the fourth quarter. Ronald Curry will suffer through his for a long time.

Hamilton committed four turnovers but led a game-tying drive in the final minute of regulation and scored on a six-yard draw in overtime as eighth-ranked Georgia Tech rallied for a 31-24 victory over North Carolina in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"What can I say? We were very fortunate to get a win today when we made six turnovers," Georgia Tech coach George O'Leary said. "We made some plays when we had to make them."

Georgia Tech (4-1, 2-1 ACC) relinquished an eight-point lead in the third quarter but tied it at 24-24 on freshman Luke Manget's 36-yard field goal with five seconds left. Manget missed his previous two attempts.

Hamilton breezed through North Carolina's defense in overtime, driving his team into the end zone on four plays. He raced up the middle and crashed over the goal line for the decisive score.

The senior completed 14-of-26 passes for 273 yards, two touchdown passes and a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions. He also rushed for 77 yards on 14 carries but fumbled twice.

"We did our darnedest to try to lose today," O'Leary said. "But we kept fighting back."

North Carolina (1-4, 0-4 ACC) turned over the ball on downs with 70 seconds to play after going for it on 4th-and-goal from the 3. The Tar Heels failed to get a first down in overtime after Hamilton scored.

But North Carolina's bigger loss came in the second quarter, when Curry, the starting quarterback and point guard on the basketball team, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon that could sideline him for both seasons.

Kelly Campbell finished with seven receptions for a career-high 203 yards and a pair of scores for Georgia Tech, which had 510 yards of offense.

The Yellow Jackets evened the all-time series at 16-16-3 while playing in overtime for the first time since the format began in 1996.

Hamilton was intercepted twice in the final four minutes. Errol Hood picked off one in North Carolina territory with 4:03 left and Tim Burgess came up with another off a deflection deep in Georgia Tech's end.

The Tar Heels marched down to the 3 behind freshman quarterback Luke Huard, but coach Carl Torbush decided to go for the end zone on 4th-and-goal rather than a short field goal and a six-point lead.

"That was a tough decision to make on 4th-and-2, whether to kick the field goal or go for it," O'Leary said. "I'm happy he went for it and we made a good stop."

Hamilton hooked up with Campbell on first down for 30 yards and with Dez White for another 10. A 34-yard connection with Campbell and a six-yard scramble by Hamilton put the ball at the 20.

After an incompletion, Manget trotted onto the field with eight seconds left and tied it at 24-24 with his third field goal in six tries this season.

"We've been good in two-minute (situations)," O'Leary said. "And we work on that a lot. The key there was Kelly Campbell. Joe made the pass and Kelly ran to the 35 and then we got other guys freed up."

Hamilton led his fifth fourth-quarter come-from-behind win in the last 12 games, also doing so against Virginia, Clemson, Georgia and Notre Dame.

North Carolina scored the first 13 points but needed a four-yard TD run by Huard and a two-point conversion with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to tie it. Josh McGee's 36-yard field goal 5:41 into the fourth put the Heels in front, 24-21.

Hamilton and Campbell began Tech's initial comeback with a 47-yard connection 49 seconds before the half. A 59-yard hookup between the two 2:13 into the third quarter gave the Jackets a 14-13 edge.

They grabbed a 21-13 advantage midway through the period on a two-yard scoring run by Philip Rogers, who combined with Hamilton and Sean Gregory for 211 rushing yards.

North Carolina had 352 total yards and one turnover. Anthony Saunders carried 17 times for 110 yards while Domonique Williams, Deon Dyer and Curry totaled another 124 yards on 32 touches.

Curry, who opened the scoring with a 30-yard run, was injured when he was sacked with 12:59 left in the first half. He was 2-of-4 for 13 yards.

The sophomore was 55-of-111 for 682 yards, three touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season. He also carried 60 times for 226 yards and two scores.
