CORVALLIS, Oregon (Ticker) -- The Rick Neuheisel era at Washington got off to a slow start, but it is rolling now. Willie Hurst ran for a pair of touchdowns and the defense accounted for two more -- all in the first half -- as the Huskies blitzed Oregon State, 47-21 in a Pac-10 Conference matchup. Hurst opened the scoring just 74 seconds into the contest with a 41-yard TD run. Cornerback Anthony Vontoure brought back an interception 44 yards for a score just over a minute later, giving Washington (3-2, 2-0 Pac-10) a quick 14-0 advantage. The early barrage continued as Marques Tuiasosopo hit Pat Conniff with a six-yard TD pass to make it 21-0 less than six minutes into the game. Hurst, who carried 17 times for 108 yards, ran two yards for a TD early in the second period and linebacker Jamaun Willis returned an interception 24 yards for a score. Shawn Maurice plunged over from one yard and John Anderson booted a 50-yard field goal, giving the Huskies a monstrous 45-0 cushion at the half. Washington dropped its first two games under Neuheisel, who replaced Jim Lambright. But the Huskies have won their last three contests, averaging over 37 points per game. Ken Simonton had a pair of TD runs and Jonathan Smith hit T.J. Houshmandzadeh with a 13-yard touchdown pass for Oregon State (3-2, 0-2 Pac-10), which has dropped consecutive games after winning its first three. Washington improved to 54-26-4 in the all-time series between the teams.
