LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Shaud Williams may quickly make Texas Tech fans forget about Ricky Williams. Shaud Williams, a 5-8 freshman from Andrews, Texas, rushed for 230 yards -- the ninth-highest total in school history -- as Texas Tech cruised past Colorado, 31-10, in a Big 12 Conference game. Texas Tech's top back since Ricky Williams, a one-time Heisman Trophy contender, was lost for the season due to a knee injury, Shaud Williams carried 21 times, averaging 11 yards per attempt, and scored two touchdowns. His three-yard TD run came in a 17-point second quarter, during which Rob Peters threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Darrel Jones and Chris Birkholtz booted a 36-yard field goal. Peters completed 15-of-23 passes for 181 yards. He also hit Jones with another 13-yard scoring strike late in the third quarter to give Texas Tech (2-4, 1-2 Big 12 South) a 24-7 advantage. Jones caught three passes for 32 yards. Jeremy Aldrich kicked a 45-yard field goal for Colorado (3-3, 2-1 North) three minutes into the final period, but Texas Tech put the game out of reach almost three minutes later as Williams broke loose for a six-yard TD run. Colorado got decent performances from running back Cortlen Johnson and quarterback Mike Moschetti but was unable to turn yards into points. Johnson totaled 107 yards on 22 carries and Moschetti completed 20-of-32 passes for 194 yards and a score. The loss snapped Colorado's six-game winning streak in the state of Texas.
