LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- In one game, Louisville quarterback Chris Redman broke one of Ty Detmer's all-time NCAA records and closed in on two others.

Redman moved into second place in career passing yards as he threw for 397 and five touchdowns as Louisville held off Houston, 39-33, in a Conference USA matchup.

Redman passed former Fresno State quarterback Todd Santos and now has 11,605 career passing yards. But Redman will not catch Detmer for the all-time record as he trails the former Brigham Young quarterback by 3,425 yards with three games left in the season and his career.

However, Redman broke Detmer's record as the career leader in passing attempts with 1,554 as he completed 27-of-53 passes. He also is six completions shy of tying Detmer's record of 958.

Lavell Boyd set personal marks with 11 catches for 173 yards and four touchdowns. He caught his third touchdown pass of the game, a seven-yarder, to give the Cardinals a 25-24 lead in the third quarter.

Redman completed a four-yard scoring pass to Arnold Jackson just over four minutes later to extend Louisville's lead to 32-24.

Ketric Sanford ran in his second touchdown of the game from five yards to cut Louisville's lead to two with just under three minutes left in the third quarter, but the two-point conversion failed. But Boyd reeled in a 25-yard touchdown pass, his fourth of the game, just over a minute later to give the Cardinals a 39-30 advantage.

Houston could manage only a 35-yard field goal by Mike Clark with five seconds left in the game to provide the final margin.

Jackson had nine catches for 119 yards, the 19th consecutive game he has caught at least five passes and his third 100-yard receiving effort of the season.

Louisville (5-3, 2-1 Conference USA) won its second straight game and claimed only its third victory in nine meetings with Houston.

Jason McKinley completed 20-of-37 for 255 yards and Sanford gained 139 yards on 21 carries for Houston (4-3, 1-2), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.
