KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- One week before a showdown with Notre Dame, No. 4 Tennessee had little trouble with Lou Holtz's winless South Carolina team. Tee Martin threw for 216 yards and a touchdown and Jamal Lewis ran for 146 yards and a score before leaving with an injury as Tennessee cruised to a 30-7 Southeastern Conference East victory. "It's a win, something we can learn from," Martin said. "It was frustrating with our execution. We couldn't get any rhythm going, but we made some big plays and put some points on the board. They just played good defense. They covered us well and that's the reason I had to scramble." Martin, who completed an NCAA-record 23 straight passes in a 49-14 rout of South Carolina last season, was 11-of-23 with an interception. Martin's 4,217 career passing yards move him past Condredge Holloway for sixth place on Tennessee's all-time list. Lewis rushed 14 times and recorded his 13th career 100-yard performance to match the school record held by Jay Graham (1993-96). Tennessee (6-1, 4-1 SEC East) improved to 10-0 at home against the Gamecocks and leads the all-time series, 14-2-2. The Volunteers split two meetings against Holtz when he was with the Fighting Irish. Tennessee had its streak of consecutive sellouts at Neyland Stadium snapped at 16, although the crowd was 105,941 just 19 short of a sellout. "I'm glad to get the win. We prepared well all week," said Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer. "We played today like a team that was sandwiched in between Alabama and Notre Dame. I don't know if we played spectacular or that bad. We have played better. I was pleased, but not satisfied." Freshman Donte' Stallworth caught four passes for a career-best 130 yards for Tennessee, which has won five straight games since a 23-21 setback at Florida on September 18. Mikal Goodman tossed a 24-yard pass to Ben Fleming with 36 seconds left for South Carolina (0-9, 0-7), which extended its school-record and national-high losing streak to 19 games. Goodman, making his third career start, was 7-of-14 for 121 yards. "We lost field position on a consistent basis and didn't tackle well," Holtz said. "They drove down the field on us two or three times. I thought we would block them better up front. We have to control the line of scrimmage better." Martin tossed a 24-yard pass to freshman Onterrio Smith to open the scoring 2:44 into the contest. Lewis had a 70-yard scoring run three minutes into the second quarter to give the Volunteers a 14-0 advantage. It Lewis' first TD since the loss to Florida and the longest scoring run of his career. Freshman Alex Walls kicked a 33-yard field goal with 5:53 left in the second and a 47-yard field goal three seconds before halftime to give Tennessee a 20-0 cushion. Walls booted a career-high 51-yard field goal with 3:12 to play in the third for a 23-0 lead. "Give South Carolina credit in the third quarter. Our execution was not what it needed to be," Fulmer said. Phillip Crosby followed a 71-yard pass to Stallworth with a one-yard plunge to give the Volunteers a 30-0 bulge 3:10 into the fourth. "It was a good play," Stallworth said. "The key is to get the guard to get the block downfield. Once I got open past my guy, I just tried to make the rest miss. I tried to dive at the end, but fell flat on my face."
