COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Bouncing back from a blowout, 18th-ranked Texas A&M recorded the 600th win in school history and coach R.C. Slocum notched his 100th with a 21-3 victory over Oklahoma State in a Big 12 Conference South battle. Randy McCown threw two touchdown passes to Matt Bumgardner as Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2 Big 12 South) became the 17th school in Division I-A history to collect 600 victories. Slocum is just the eighth coach in NCAA history to reach 100 wins by his 11th season. "It's fitting that the 100th win came in a game where we really needed to get a win," Slocum said. The landmark win came one week late for the Aggies. They were embarrassed at Oklahoma last week and had their national championship hopes dashed with a 51-6 loss, the program's worst in 98 years. McCown suffered a separated shoulder in that contest but looked strong coming back, completing 20-of-29 for 242 yards with no interceptions. He was just 9-of-21 for 131 yards and was picked off once in last week's defeat. "I knew we could come back. To be able to play today the way we did means so much to me," McCown said. "Everybody showed so much heart and gave so much effort. It really, really means a lot to me for everybody to come together and play this hard." "Randy is the type of guy who never shows you he's hurt," Aggies offensive lineman Chris Valletta said. "We all wouldn't want to play with anybody else at the helm." Bumgardner set career highs with five receptions and 79 yards. His 11-yard TD catch midway through the second quarter snapped a scoreless tie and he also pulled in a 14-yard scoring strike from McCown with 6:01 to play. "We're not used to what happened to us last week," Bumgardner said. "I think the team responded well today. It was good to get things back on track and get a win." Tim Sydnes' 36-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter was the only offense for Oklahoma State (3-4, 1-3), which has lost four of its last five games. Roylin Bradley led the Aggies' defensive effort, collecting three sacks among his seven tackles. Fellow linebacker Jarrod Penright contributed a pair of sacks and defensive back Sedrick Curry had an interception. That defensive unit wreaked havoc on B.J. Tiger, who filled in for the injured Tony Lindsay and completed 15-of-21 for just 154 yards. Lindsay sat out with a shoulder injury. "I found out right before the game. Tony said he was hurt," Tiger said. "I practiced hard like I was going to start, just like I do every week. I was prepared but I just didn't get the job done. We have to fight harder when we get into the red zone." Tiger's counterpart got on track in the second quarter. McCown fired a 21-yard completion to Leroy Hodge and hit Eric Bernard for 28 to help set up his first TD toss to Bumgardner. Hodge had seven receptions for 77 yards. McCown led a 14-play, 79-yard drive late in the third quarter that allowed Texas A&M to double the advantage. The senior from Jacksonville, Texas hit Bumgardner for a 25-yard gain to the 1, then Tiki Hardeman plunged into the end zone. "I spoke to the seniors earlier today and we just came out and showed everybody who we are," McCown added. "You may not see it on the outside, but on the inside we have what it takes. The Aggies chewed nearly six minutes off the clock early in the fourth en route to Bumgardner's second TD catch. Tiger drove the Cowboys to the Texas A&M 30 on their next drive but his fourth-down pass fell incomplete with 4:01 to go. "We had some real good drives," Oklahoma State coach Bob Simmons said. "We just didn't put any points on the board. You can't do that on the road." Hardeman and Bernard helped run out the clock as the Aggies notched their fourth straight win in the series. Bernard and Hardeman each rushed 15 times for 80 and 40 yards, respectively.
