IOWA CITY, Iowa (Ticker) -- Neil Rackers kicked four field goals and caught a 17-yard touchdown pass off a fake as Illinois handed Iowa its sixth consecutive loss, 40-24, in a Big Ten Conference battle.

Rackers connected from 50 and 49 yards in the first quarter, giving Illinois a 6-3 lead. The Fighting Illini (5-4, 2-4 Big Ten) lined up for a 35-yard attempt early in the second but holder Steve Fitts -- a punter -- found Rackers for the TD that put Illinois in front 13-3.

Off to its worst start in 26 years, Iowa (1-8, 0-6) climbed within three points when Ladell Betts broke free for a 48-yard touchdown.

But Rackers kicked a pair of 37-yard field goals and Kurt Kittner threw two TD passes to help the Illini end a three-game losing streak against the Hawkeyes.

Kittner completed 24-of-41 passes for 289 yards, while Rocky Harvey rushed for 90 yards on 25 carries.

Betts had 140 yards on 16 attempts for Iowa, while Scott Mullen passed for one score and ran for another. The Hawkeyes have not completed a winless Big Ten slate since 1973, when they were 0-11.
