CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (Ticker) -- Steve Havard and Rocky Harvey each rushed for 99 yards as Illinois capped its best season since 1990 with a 29-7 Big Ten Conference victory over Northwestern. Havard scored on touchdown runs of one and 34 yards while Harvey added a 21-yard TD, helping Illinois (7-4, 4-4 Big 10) close the season with seven victories after going just 3-8 last season. The Fighting Illini posted seven wins for the first since 1990, when they went 8-4 and tied for the Big 10 title. After Illinois got on the board on Neil Rackers' 21-yard field goal with 9:29 left in the first period, Northwestern (3-8, 1-7) took a 7-3 lead on Zak Kustok's 17-yard touchdown pass to Teddy Johnson with 4:23 left in the opening period. But Illinois took control with 17 unanswered points in the second quarter. Havard's one-yard TD run and Harvey's 21-yard scamper made it 17-7 before Rackers booted a 31-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining in the half. Rackers booted a 27-yard field goal in the final quarter before Havard's 34-yard run completed the scoring. Kurt Kittner completed 16-of-30 passes for 191 yards with two interceptions for Illinois, which posted its third straight win over Northwestern and took a 49-39-5 lead in the all-time series. Last season, the Illini recorded a 13-10 win in Evanston to snap a 15-game Big 10 losing streak. Kustok completed 16-of-32 passes for 179 yards for Northwestern while Damien Anderson rushed for 123 yards on 25 carries.
