SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Paul Arnold's 80-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run sealed the victory for Washington as it captured the Apple Cup with a 24-14 victory over intrastate and Pac-10 rival Washington State. Arnold, who rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries, gave the Huskies (7-4, 6-2) a commanding 24-7 lead with 10:16 to play with his long scoring scamper. Washington, which holds a commanding 59-27-6 lead in the all-time series, has taken 26 of 37 contests from the Cougars (2-9, 1-7) since the Apple Cup was originated in 1962. Maurice Shaw complemented Arnold in the Washington backfield, carrying 20 times for 69 yards. His four-yard TD run with 31 seconds left in the opening quarter staked the Huskies to a 10-0 lead, which they would not surrender. Marques Tuiasosopo, who compiled a school-record 509 yards of total offense in last weekend's victory over Stanford, completed 13-of-22 passes for 125 yards and rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries. The Huskies were clinging to a 10-6 lead when flanker Dane Looker threw a 55-yard option TD pass to Joe Jarzynka with 4:51 remaining in the first half, giving Washington a 17-6 lead. The teams exchanged punts until Arnold's key fourth-quarter run. Steve Birnbaum was 14-of-28 for 190 yards for Washington State, which has lost four in a row and will play its season finale next weekend at Hawaii. Adam Hawkins capped the scoring with a 19-yard TD run with 8:22 to play and the Cougars could not get any closer.
