LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Sophomore Kliff Kingsbury completed 33-of-47 passes for 450 yards and three touchdowns and freshman Carlos Francis caught seven passes for 234 yards, leading Texas Tech to a 38-16 romp over Utah State.

The game-time temperature was 99 degrees, but that didn't keep the two youngsters from torching a couple of school records.

Kingsbury's passing yardage broke the school record of 446 set by Billy Joe Tolliver against Oklahoma State in 1988.

Francis set a school record with his average of 33.4 yards per catch.

The Red Raiders (2-0) piled up 582 total net yards, including 505 passing, winning their sixth straight home game.

Kingsbury recorded his second career rushing touchdown when he dove into the end zone from the one-yard line and Dorian Pitts' fumble return for a touchdown was the team's second defensive TD this season, already equaling their total from last year.

Darrell Jones took a 19-yard pass from Kingsbury early in the second quarter, and Texas Tech had a 21-0 lead.

Brad Bohn connected on a 43-yard field goal to finally get the Aggies (0-1) on the board with 4:12 left in the second quarter and Aaron Jones pulled in a 23-yard pass from Jeff Crosbie with 7:36 to go in the third, making it 21-9.

But Kingsbury capped an 11-play, 62-yard drive with a five-yard pass to Ricky Williams, and Francis took a pass from Kingsbury and went 45 yards for another TD, boosting the Texas Tech lead to 35-9 with 11:36 left in the game.

Crosbie found Joe Solosabal in the end zone from five yards out, finishing off an eight-play, 73-yard drive for Utah State.

Chris Birkholz nailed a 44-yard field goal with 2:25 left, pushing the Red Raiders' lead to 22 points.

With the victory, Mike Leach became the fourth coach in school history to win his first two games.
