ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- Ken Simonton scored on a 43-yard touchdown run on fourth down with 72 seconds left to ice Oregon State's 28-20 victory over New Mexico.

Trailing by one point, the Lobos were trying to stop the Beavers on 4th-and-1 but Simonton's score increased Oregon State's lead. It concluded an outstanding performance in which Simonton had 30 carries for 184 yards and two touchdowns.

New Mexico drove to the Oregon State 29 as it tried to force overtime but Rudy Caamano was intercepted by Keith Heyward-Johnson with 20 seconds remaining.

Oregon State (2-0) held a 300-172 edge in total yards, including 222-42 through the air. But it did not take the lead for good until T.J. Houshmandzadeh scored on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Jonathan Smith with 11:37 left.

LaDairis Jackson added a 32-yard interception return for a score for the Beavers, who have won 12 straight regular season non-conference games.

Caamano completed 12-of-21 passes for 130 yards and two TDs for the Lobos, who are 0-3 for the first time since 1994.

New Mexico was 0-for-13 on third-down conversions.
