LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Kliff Kingsbury completed 42-of-55 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown as Texas Tech remained unbeaten with a 13-7 victory over North Texas. Kingsbury was not as effective as last week, when he threw for 450 yards and fired three touchdowns against Utah State. But his effort helped Texas Tech move to 3-0 for the second time in three seasons. Tim Baker caught a six-yard scoring pass from Kingsbury late in the first half to open the scoring and Chris Birkholz booted two field goals in the third quarter as the Red Raiders led, 13-0. North Texas (0-2) got on the board when Brad Kassell returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. The Mean Green were driving towards the go-ahead score, but wide receiver LaDarrin McLane fumbled and Derrick Briggs recovered for Texas Tech with 1:44 left. Kingsbury's effort helped the Red Raiders gain a 238-107 advantage in passing yards and 318-156 in total offense. Ricky Williams had nine receptions for 48 yards and Baker hauled in eight passes for 67 yards for Texas Tech. Scott Hall completed 5-of-9 passes for 93 yards for North Texas, which visits Nevada-Las Vegas next week.
