GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Another big second half by East Carolina translated to another win over Tulane. David Garrard threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second half and ran for a career-best 112 yards and a score as East Carolina rallied for a 37-17 triumph over Tulane in the Conference USA opener for both schools. Garrard rolled up 297 yards of total offense. While leading the Pirates (2-1, 1-0 C-USA) in rushing, he completed 10-of-27 passes for 185 yards and a pair of TDs. The 6-3 junior brought East Carolina back from a 14-10 halftime deficit, hitting Arnie Powell for a 41-yard score late in the third quarter and finding Derrick Collier for a 26-yard touchdown midway through the fourth. The Pirates outscored the Green Wave (1-1, 0-1) in the second half, 24-3, after rolling up 38 points after halftime in last year's 52-7 rout at Tulane. In their season opener two weeks ago, the Green Wave were outscored by Mississippi, 35-10, in the second half of a 49-20 loss. The teams combined for 992 total yards, with East Carolina holding an 18-yard edge. The Pirates recorded six sacks and recovered two fumbles. Mewedle Moore carried 22 times for 131 yards for the Green Wave, while fellow freshman J.P. Losman was 20-of-35 for 299 yards and two touchdowns.
