COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Ja'Mar Toombs ran for three second-half touchdowns as Texas A&M used a superior ground game to roll over Texas El Paso, 45-17. Toombs gained only 16 yards in the contest but made the most of his six carries. His first TD midway through the third quarter from two yards out and put the Aggies on top 21-17. The junior back added a one-yard burst in the waning moments of the period and followed with a two-yard score which pushed the lead to 38-17 late in the contest. While Tooms provided lots of points, Joe Weber and quarterback Mark Farris led an Aggies ground attack, which piled up 236 yards against the porous Texas El Paso defense. Webber gained 91 yards on 11 carries, including a 16-yard touchdown run and Farris added 54 on seven rushes for Texas A&M (2-1). Farris also completed 18-of-29 passes for 187 yards. Texas El Paso (1-2) got on the board first, with Rocky Perez connecting on a six-yard strike to Joey Knapp midway through the opening quarter. The Aggies pulled even when Farris tossed a six-yard TD pass to Robert Ferguson with just under five minutes remaining in the period and took a 14-7 lead on Weber's score less than two minutes later. The Miners took charge in the second quarter. Perez hit Lee Mays on a 35-yard scoring strike that tied the score at 14-14 early in the period and Rickey Bishop booted a 35-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the half to give Texas El Paso the lead. But the second half belonged to the Aggies. Texas A&M regained the lead on Toombs' first touchdown and extended the advantage to 28-17 with his second score. Terence Kitchens kicked a 21-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter and the Aggies completed the romp with Toombs' third touchdown and a 15-yard run by Colby Freeman in the final minute.
