EL PASO, Texas (Ticker) -- Rocky Perez completed 18-of-31 passes for 265 yards and four touchdowns as Texas El Paso dominated offensively en route to a 39-7 thumping of Hawaii in a Western Athletic Conference game.

Hawaii (0-2, 0-1 WAC) took the lead early in the second period as Matt Wright recovered a fumble in the end zone for a 7-3 edge. But that was all Hawaii could manage as the Miners took over.

Perez hooked up Lee Mays on a 68-yard TD strike that capped a four-play 80-yard drive.

Perez gave UTEP a comfortable 24-7 advantage at halftime when he found Joey Knapp on a nine-yard pass play with 3:48 remaining and hit Brian Natkin on a five-yard strike with 49 seconds left.

Bishop added field goals from 23 and 25 yards sandwiched between a 21-yard pass from Perez to Mays to complete the scoring.

Mays caught four passes for 109 yards and the two scores for the Miners. UTEP held a convincing 405-264 edge in total offense and allowed just 53 yards rushing to Hawaii.

The duo of Nick Rolovich and Timmy Chang combined to complete only 15-of-50 passes for 211 yards with two interceptions for the Warriors.

The two teams started slowly as UTEP posted a 25-yard field goal from Ricky Bishop for the only score of the first quarter.
