PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Adam Hawkins scored on a one-yard burst with 1:15 remaining to lift Washington State to a 42-35 victory over Boise State. Hawkins' TD completed an eight-play, 39-yard drive that capped a wild offensive contest. He also scored from two yards out early in the second half, giving the Cougars (3-2, 1-1 Pac-10) a 26-17 cushion. The schools combined for 895 total yards, with 625 through the air. Cougars quarterback Jason Gesser was sharp, completing 21-of-30 passes to 11 different receivers. He threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Boise State quarterback Bart Hendricks was similarly impressive, throwing for 335 yards and four TDs. He connected on 24-of-41 attempts, with wideout Jeb Putzier catching seven for 135 yards. The Broncos (3-2) led 14-7 after the first quarter as Hendricks threw for two touchdowns in the period. Anousith Wilaikul booted field goals of 38 and 22 yards and Gesser hit Collin Henderson with a 14-yard TD pass late in the second quarter, giving the Cougars a 19-14 lead. Nick Calaycay's 46-yarder made it a two-point game at the half. After Hawkins' first touchdown, Wilaikul's third field goal, a 34-yarder, pushed the lead to 29-17 midway through the third quarter. The teams traded scores spanning the third and fourth quarters but the Huskies failed to convert a two-point conversion attempt and led 35-24 with 13:17 left. Hendrick's arm brought back the Broncos once again, setting up a 27-yard field goal by Calaycay with 10:58 to play and capping 64-yard drive with a 12-yard pass to Lou Fanucchi. A successful two-point coversion forged a 35-35 tie at the 7:19 mark. Gesser marched Washington State down the field and Hawkins capped an eight-play drive with the game-winning score.
