PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- Jason Gesser threw for three touchdowns as Washington State cruised to a 36-7 victory over Idaho. Gesser completed 15-of-26 passes for 246 yards as Washington State (1-0) improved to 64-17-3 all-time against Idaho. Gesser tossed an 18-yard pass to freshman Trandon Harvey to give the Cougars a 20-0 lead with 3:09 left in the second quarter. Nakoa McElrath caught a pair of scoring passes from Gesser in the third quarter, when Washington State stretched the lead to 33-0. Drew Dunning kicked a 32-yard field goal, his third of the game, with 4:51 left in the period. Dave Minnich carried 23 times for 127 yards for the Cougars. Minnich, a 27-year-old senior, had a 30-yard run that gave Washington State a 10-0 lead 85 seconds into the second quarter. John Welsh was 12-of-26 for 66 yards for Idaho (0-1), which had won the last two meetings with Washington State. Welsh's four-yard pass to Chris Lacy with 3:11 left in the third quarter was the only score for the Vandals.
