TOLEDO, Ohio (Ticker) -- New coach, same result. Toledo opened the Tom Amstutz era in rousing fashion as Chester Taylor scored four touchdowns and rushed for 186 yards on 18 carries in a 38-7 rout of Minnesota in the season opener for both teams. An assistant at Toledo for 21 seasons, Amstutz replaced highly successful Gary Pinkel, who took the Missouri job. Pinkel posted a 73-37-3 record in his 10 years at Toledo, including a 10-1 mark last year. The Rockets have grown accustomed to beating teams from the Big Ten Conference as they opened last season with a victory over Penn State. "It was a great feeling at the start of the game when we started so strong," Amstutz said. "You never know what can happen at the start of the game. I was hoping that nobody would wake me." Led by Taylor, Toledo jumped on the Golden Gophers early with 17 points in the first quarter and was never threatened. Coming off back-to-back 1000-yard seasons, Taylor scored on runs of one, 64 and 41 yards and also caught a nine-yard TD pass from Tavares Bolden. "The offense really didn't change much from last year," Taylor said. "We ran a lot of one-back sets last year. The big difference this year is that I'm going out more on passing routes." Taylor's 64-yard scamper gave the Rockets a 17-0 lead before Bolden reached the end zone on a one-yard keeper five minutes into the second period that made it 24-0 at the half. "There were a lot of question marks coming into tonight's game in regards to our new offense," Bolden said. "I think, though, we put on a pretty good display tonight. At the beginning, I thought we were all nervous." Minnesota got its only points on Tellis Redmon's 20-yard TD run 6:25 into the fourth quarter. Taylor capped the scoring just over two minutes later with his 41-yard TD. Antwon McCray ran for 120 yards for the Rockets, who outgained the Golden Gophers, 363-103, on the ground. Bolden completed 16-of-24 for 145 yards.
