COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Ticker) -- In Oklahoma's first game against Air Force, Quentin Griffin soared to new heights. Griffin carried 26 times for a career-high 201 yards and a touchdown and third-ranked Oklahoma forced four turnovers en route to its 15th straight victory, 44-3. During Oklahoma's national title season, the 5-6 Griffin emerged as a potent offense weapon and scored the only touchdown in the Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. With Air Force keying on the passing game, Griffin again stepped to center stage on Saturday. Nate Hybl, the successor to Josh Heupel at quarterback, looked more comfortable than he did in a season-opening win at North Carolina last week, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another. Hybl opened the scoring with a two-yard TD run late in the first quarter and threw a 13-yard TD pass to Trent Smith late in the second period. Following an interception by linebacker Rocky Calmus, Tim Duncan kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 20-3 at halftime. Hybl completed 14-of-31 passes for 161 yards and was intercepted pass. The Sooners piled on three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Hybl threw an eight-yard TD pass to Mark Clayton and Griffin scored on a three-yard run to make it 37-3. Defensive end Cory Heinecke capped the scoring when he returned a fumble 69 yards for a score. Oklahoma's opportunistic defense held Air Force to 249 total yards and has forced nine turnovers in its first two games. The only score for Air Force (0-1) was a 35-yard field goal by Brooks Walters in the second quarter. Air Force quarterback Keith Boyea struggled in his first career start, completing just 11-of-23 passes for 112 yards. He was replaced by Bryan Blew in the fourth quarter. Duncan added field goals of 47 yards in the second quarter and 26 in the fourth. The sellout crowd of 56,162 included about 15,000 fans clad in Sooner red. Oklahoma was playing its first game against a service academy since 1965.
