AUBURN, Alabama (Ticker) -- Redshirt freshman Jason Campbell threw for 214 yards and a touchdown and Auburn's defense limited Ball State to 92 total yards in a 30-0 rout in the season opener for both teams. A 43-yard touchdown run by redshirt freshman Ronnie Brown opened the scoring with 9:50 remaining. Damon Duval's 30-yard field goal gave Auburn (1-0) a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Campbell, the third freshman to start for Auburn in the last four seasons, scored on a one-yard plunge to cap an 11-play, 86-yard drive before Campbell tossed a 44-yard pass TD strike to Robert Johnson to make it 24-0 at the half. Duval added field goals of 35 yards and 51 yards in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. Ball State (0-1) rushed 34 times for just 60 yards, including 38 by Marcus Merriweather on 15 carries. Talmadge Hill, who was harrassed throughout, completed just 5-of-16 for 32 yards. Auburn improved to 8-1 in September under third-year coach Tommy Tuberville.
