ATHENS, Georgia (Ticker) -- Mark Richt is the new boss at Georgia, and he brought his high-powered offense with him. Musa Smith ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns and freshman David Greene passed for a pair of scores to lead Georgia to a 45-17 win over Arkansas State in the season opener for both teams. The Bulldogs (1-0) piled up 598 yards of offense and easily won their first game under Richt, who spent the last seven seasons as offensive coordinator at Florida State. His newest weapon will be Smith, who scored on runs of five and three yards to give Georgia a 14-0 lead after one quarter. Smith, who carried 20 times, added a 49-yard TD run in the third quarter to increase the lead to 31-7. Richt chose Greene, a redshirt freshman, as his starter over junior Cory Philips, and the move paid off on Saturday. Greene completed 21-of-29 passes for 285 yards and was not intercepted. Greene completed a 25-yard TD pass to Terrence Edwards in the second quarter and a 13-yarder to Damien Gary in the final period. Gary caught eight passes for 104 yards. Phillips relieved Greene and threw a 23-yard TD pass to Corrie Collier. Josh Driscoll of Arkansas State completed 14-of-24 passes for 148 yards and a score.
