LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Zach Dyer threw for 231 yards and a touchdown to lead Kansas to a 24-10 victory over Division I-AA opponent Southwest Missouri State. Dyer completed 19-of-29 passes for 231 yards and two interceptions as Kansas (1-0) improved to 12-0 all-time against Division I-AA schools. Dyer gave the Jawyhawks the lead when he capped a nine-play, 72-yard drive with a one-yard sneak with 4:25 remaining in the opening quarter. Dan Coke rushed 21 times for 44 yards and Dyer totaled 41 yards on 12 carries as Kansas won its third straight home opener. Linebacker Algie Atkinson had two of Kansas' four sacks. Atkison's first sack caused Austin Moherman to fumble and defensive end David McMillan picked up the ball and ran two yards to give the Jayhawks a 14-0 lead 54 seconds into the second quarter. Moherman was 15-of-32 for 185 yards and was intercepted once. Southwest Missouri State (0-1) fell to 1-16 against Division I-A opponents. The Bears capitalized on linebacker Rod Pickett's fumble recovery at the Kansas 49 as Brian Long kicked a 47-yard field to cut the deficit to 14-3 with just under nine minutes remaining in the second quarter. Cornerback Kendrick Shaver had 10-yard interception return and Moherman had a 38-yard pass to Mark Marcos before scoring from one-yard out to pull Southwest Missouri State within 14-10 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the second. Kansas answered on its next possession as Dyer tossed a 43-yard pass to Derrick Mills for a 21-10 lead with 3:52 left in the first half. Johnny Beck added a 43-yard field 2:02 into the fourth quarter.
