PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Quarterback David Priestley scored the first official touchdown in Heinz Field history on an 85-yard run in the first quarter as Pittsburgh christened the new facility with a 31-0 victory over East Tennessee State.

It also was the first career rushing touchdown for Priestley, who carried only four times for 84 yards. He completed 15-of-20 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.

Pittsburgh's defense allowed only 180 total yards, recording the school's first season-opening shutout in 22 years.

After Priestley gave Pittsburgh the lead 6:22 into the contest, Rod Rutherford scored on a three-yard TD run with 2:04 remaining in the first quarter to stake the Panthers (1-0) to a 14-0 halftime lead.

Following a scoreless second period, Pittsburgh stretched its lead to 21-0 on Priestley's 12-yard TD pass to R.J. English with 9:07 left in the third period.

The Panthers completed the scoring in the final period on Raymond Kirkley's one-yard TD run and Nick Lotz's 20-yard field goal. Kirkley paced Pittsburgh on the ground with 90 yards on 18 carries.

Matt Wilhelm completed just 8-of-18 for 101 yards for the Buccaneers (0-1). East Tennessee State was held to just 79 yards on the ground, with Andrew Nuckolls and Terry Copeland each rushing for 32 yards.

Although the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers have hosted two exhibition games at Heinz Field, they do not play their first regular season game here until September 16.
