FRESNO, California (Ticker) -- David Carr threw four touchdown passes and Asen Asparuhov kicked three field goals as Fresno State upset 12th-ranked Oregon State, 44-24, for its 16th straight home victory. Carr completed 21-of-34 passes for 340 yards and Asparuhov kicked field goals of 21, 29 and 21 yards as Fresno State (2-0) routed the highest-ranked team to visit Bulldog Stadium. As the seconds ticked off the clock, the sellout crowd erupted and overran the field. Rodney Wright had seven receptions for a career-high 182 yards and two touchdowns. He caught a short pass from Carr, got himself loose and ran into the end zone for a 70-yard score with 1:48 left in the third quarter to give Fresno State a 31-10 lead. Oregon State (0-1) committed 19 penalties for 129 yards and had its seven-game winning streak -- the longest in school history since 1966-67 -- and suffered its first loss to a non-conference foe in 14 games. The Bulldogs scored on their first two possessions and took a 17-3 lead on Carr's one-yard score to Jeremy Johnson with eight minutes left in the second quarter. Tailback Ken Simonton pulled the Beavers within 17-10 with 3:43 left before halftime with a 16-yard TD run. It was his 49th rushing score, tying him with Herschel Walker, Allen Pinkett and Ted Brown for 14th place on college football's all-time list. But Carr found Bernard Berrian with a 28-yard TD pass with 6:31 to go in the third period to push the lead to 24-10. Jonathan Smith's six-yard scoring pass to George Gillett cut Oregon State's deficit to 31-17 with 14:12 to play. Less than two minutes later, Seth Trimmer caught a 65-yard TD pass from Smith, who was 20-for-34 for 284 yards and one interception. Trimmer had four receptions for 109 yards. Fresno State took a 38-24 lead with 10:13 remaining when Carr and Wright connected on a 32-yard TD and Asparuhov kicked a pair of field goals.
