TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Jason Johnson passed for 304 yards and two touchdowns and Clarence Farmer ran for 118 yards and two scores as Arizona defeated Idaho, 36-29. Arizona built a 29-0 lead and held on for the second win in as many games under new coach John Mackovic. Idaho fell to 0-2. The Wildcats drove 53 yards on seven plays with the opening drive, setting up a 44-yard field goal by Sean Keel, taying his career best. Johnson, who completed 20-of-30 passes, hooked up with Bobby Wade on a 50-yard pass play to the Idaho 7 and Farmer took it in on the next play. But Keel's extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving Arizona with a 9-0 lead. Johnson connected with Brandon Marshall on a school record 99-yard pass play to make it 15-0 at halftime. Johnson found Andrae Thurman wide open in the left corner of the end zone with 7:50 left in the third quarter to increase the lead to 22-0. Farmer went in from one-yard out on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 29-0. The Vandals started their comeback with a seven-yard touchdown pass from John Welsh to Rossi Martin with 12:33 remaining. It took only 1:06 for Arizona to answer back as Leo Mills raced 22 yards to the end zone to make it 36-7. Idaho cut it to 36-14 with 8:07 left to play on a 20-yard pass from Welsh to Chris Lacy. Welsh found Ethan Jones in the end zone from 25 yards away with 3:21 left on the clock and a two-point conversion pass from Welsh to Kevin O'Connell cut it to 36-22. Martin caught a tipped ball from Welsh for a six-yard touchdown with 52 seconds remaining and Keith Stamps' extra point made it 36-29. But the ensuing onside kick attempt went out of bounds, allowing Arizona to run out the clock. Welsh completed 28-of-36 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns. Blair Lewis of the Vandals gained 110 yards on 21 carries.
