BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- Brandon Doman threw for three touchdowns and ran for another three to lead Brigham Young to a 44-16 romp over California. Doman completed 16-of-24 passes and rushed 10 times for 29 yards as Brigham Young (2-0) rolled up 488 yards of total offense. Doman gave the Cougars the lead for good, 14-7, with a four-yard run with 52 seconds left in the second quarter. Linebacker Justin Ena recovered Kyle Boller's fumble at the BYU 41 and one play later, Doman hooked up with Brian McDonald on a 53-yard touchdown to give the Cougars a 21-7 lead as time expired in the first half. An interception by linebacker Paul Walkenhorst set up Doman's four-yard run that made it 28-7 3:34 into the third quarter. Another four-yard score by Doman capped a four-play, 53-yard drive and pushed the margin to 34-7 with 8:53 remaining in the third. Kyle Boller was 19-of-33 passes for 242 yards with an interception for California (0-2). Boller tossed a 25-yard pass to Marcus Fields to give the Golden Bears a 7-0 lead with 8:14 left in the opening quarter. Boller also carried 13 times for 42 yards. Mark Jensen kicked a 30-yard field to pull California within 34-10 with 3:47 left in the third. Doman answered with a 16-yard pass to Reno Mahe with 29 seconds to go in the third to extend the cushion to 41-10. Matt Payne added a 23-yard field goal with 5:03 left in the fourth. Backup Eric Holtfreter threw a 19-yard touchdown to Ryan Stanger for California with 2:19 left.
