AMES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Ennis Haywood and quarterback Seneca Wallace each ran for two touchdowns as Iowa State opened its season with a 45-0 pounding of Northern Iowa. Haywood rushed 20 times for 107 yards and Wallace gained 97 yards on just five carries as Iowa State (1-0) improved to 15-3-3 all-time against Northern Iowa in the first meeting between the schools since 1996. Tony Yelk kicked a 47-yard field goal to start the onslaught just 2:58 into the game. Wallace scored from 27 yards to give the Cyclones a 10-0 advantage with 3:27 to go in the opening quarter. Just 1:34 later, Wallace broke off a 60-yard run to make it 17-0. Haywood, the Big 12 Conference's leading rusher last season with 123.7 yards per game, had a one-yard plunge to push the bulge to 24-0 just 22 seconds into the second quarter and added a three-yard TD run just over four minutes into the third. Richard Carter carried 15 times for 82 yards for Northern Iowa (0-2). Tom Petrie had a miserable night, throwing five interceptions and completing just was 8-of-27 for 99 yards. Michael Wagner and Joe Woodley each ran for touchdowns in the third quarter for Iowa.
