BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- LaBrandon Toefield ran for a career-high 183 yards and four touchdowns as Louisiana State cruised to a 31-14 victory over Utah State.

Toefield carried 27 times and fell one touchdown short of the Louisiana State record set by Kevin Faulk. In last week's 48-17 romp over Tulane, Toefield became the first LSU player to run for three touchdowns since quarterback Herb Tyler did it against Kentucky in 1998.

Toefield tied the game, 7-7, with a one-yard run 5:35 left in the first quarter. His five-yard run put the Tigers ahead for good, 14-7, just seven seconds into the second quarter.

Rohan Davey completed 13-of-24 passes for 229 yards for the Tigers (2-0).

Emmett White rushed for 108 yards on 22 carries for Utah State (0-2). White had a one-yard plunged that pulled the Aggies within 24-14 with 2:41 left in the third.

Jose Fuentes was 30-of-52 for 235 yards and an interception for Utah State, which lost its only previous meeting with LSU in 1993. Fuentes gave the Aggies the lead when he capped a 15-play, 70-yard drive with a three-yard pass to tight end Chris Cooley with 8:08 left in the first quarter.

LSU answered on its next possession, going 61 yards in just five plays with Toefield capping the drive.

John Corbello kicked a 34-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 17-7 lead 17 seconds before halftime.

Toefield ran in from four yards out 83 seconds into the fourth quarter for the final score.
